RV Ready - Release 2.0.43 is available

It's been a year and a half since the last major release of RV Ready. Some important changes have been made to increase the usefulness of the app.

First, RV Ready is now a universal app that runs on iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.

Second, you can now share checklists with other RV'ers via email. This feature is even useful for sending copies of your checklists from your iPhone to your iPad (or another iPhone).

Third, the checklist item rows have been reformatted to include more text. The photos have been made optional (you can delete ones you don't want). They have been moved to the right side of the screen to make it easier to quickly read the checklist names and instructions from left to right.

iAds are gone! If you already have the app installed from a previous version, this upgrade is free. For new purchasers, it is only 99 cents. Future upgrades are included for free.

The iPad version includes a nice landscape view so you can see the list of items while viewing the details for any one item.

I am working on a future update to include iCloud support.

Tip: RV Ready is not just for RV checklists. Consider using it for developing reusable checklists for home and work. The advantage with RV Ready is that you can include photos of the checklist items and you can reset the checklist to reuse it. Many checklist apps delete the checklist item after it is complete. RV Ready marks them done, but allows you to reset all to not done and start the checklist again.

RV Ready - Release 1.1.0 is available

The latest release of RV Ready adds the capability to clear the photo from the checklist item. Since the default image was just a prompt to replace it with another one, I thought it would be useful to eliminate the image entirely. Now, we you are in the edit mode for the item detail, you will see a red button at the bottom that allows you to clear the current photo.

The next release will shift over the text to use the freed up space if there is no photo. Look for that later in July in release 1.2.0.

Included in 1.1.0 was the activation of ads at the bottom of the views. I wanted this app to be free, but I needed some way to cover a few of the costs of developing and maintaining the app. I'm going to see how the ads work. If they don't interfere with the use of the app, I'll probably keep them. We'll have to wait and see. Please offer feedback in the comments.

Next release will include the shifting of text when no photo is present, a fix for a bug in the reordering of items in a checklist, and hiding the keyboard when editing the detail screen by touching anywhere outside the text boxes.

RV Ready for iPhone

RV Ready is an iPhone app designed to help RVers keep track of all the things that need to be done when preparing for a trip, arriving at a campsite, or performing annual maintenance like winterization. This is a basic checklist app with a focus on ease of use for RVers.

Basic objectives for the app include:
  • Easy to use
  • Readable in landscape mode with larger font for those of us who can't find our reading glasses
  • Allow inclusion of a photo when needed
  • Let us build reusable lists that can be checked off as we go through them and then cleared easily when ready to reuse them
In addition to giving checklists names, I've included the idea of checklist categories. For example, let's say we have two RVs, one is a travel trailer and the other is a motorhome. We could have two categories for our checklists. One for Travel Trailer and the other for Motorhome. I've included some sample checklists with the app to give you an idea how to use categories. You can rename and modify these sample checklists. You can even reload the samples by setting the reload switch under RV Ready in the iPhone Settings app.

Planned future enhancements include integration with iCloud to share your lists with all your iOS devices, and the capability to send lists you create to your friends who would like to share with you.

RV Ready is a free app supported by ads that appear at the bottom of the screens.

Even though RV Ready was built for RVers, it's also a general-purpose checklist app that uses iOS gestures like swipe left to complete or right to reset. A tap on a list opens a new checklist item that you can edit. A long-press will allow you to delete individual items. A three-figure touch on a list will allow you to reset the entire list to "not-done". You can even reorder items in the list as needed.

Please post questions, comments, problems here. I will take all feedback and work to improve the app for RVers. I use it myself, and I want to keep it easy to use.

Available as of Friday, June 21, 2013 from the App Store.
